Give Yourself To The Season

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

I’ve been thinking about seasons a lot lately. Not the weather kind. The life kind. The season of building, and the season of pruning. The season of planting, and the season of harvest. The season of speaking, and the season of listening.

We live in a culture that resists seasons. We want growth all year round. We want productivity without rest. We want harvest without the hard work of planting.

But the most fruitful lives I’ve observed are those that have learned to give themselves to the season they’re in. Not fighting it. Not rushing through it. Not wishing it were a different season.

If you’re in a season of building, build with everything you have. If you’re in a season of rest, rest without guilt. If you’re in a season of pruning – painful though it is – let the pruning happen.

The question isn’t what season you want to be in. It’s what season you’re actually in, and how well you’re giving yourself to it.
